North Carolina is an educationally powerful state, with six nurse anesthesia programs graduating students each year, building our profession. The NCANA Board of Directors supports these programs and the students, and has designated a new goal in 2008:
to increase the number of students attending the Midyear Assembly. The cost of sending one student to Midyear Assembly is $500.
Sheila Crumb wrote in the December 2007 issue of the ANETIC:
“The Strategic Plan that was devised for the upcoming year revolves around legislative activities that continue to promote professional development of our students. We solicit your support in funding and sponsoring as many students as possible to attend what we, the NCANA Board of Directors, perceive as one the most educational meetings of the year, the Midyear Assembly in Washington, D. C.”
Contributions to this fund will be used to send a student to the Midyear Assembly in Washington each year. Fund availability determines the number of students who can go to the Midyear Assembly, with the ultimate goal of sending one student per program per year.
This year’s first student will be from our newest program, Western Carolina University. If more funds become available, the next program on the rotation will be able to send a student. Individual students will be selected by their program faculty based upon leadership potential. To quote another Board member, Mary Jane Walters, “Our students are our future.”
