As spring blossoms in the state of North Carolina, seventeen nurse anesthesia students at Duke University are preparing to graduate, take their boards, and enter their new careers as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. Preparations include review courses, interviews with potential employees, and clocking their final few hours and case numbers. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Duke University welcomes its largest class yet, twenty-five promising young nurses eagerly accepting the academic challenges they will encounter over the next twenty-eight months of their lives. During the week of March 9-13th, the first years have an opportunity to get their feet wet in the clinical setting, stepping into the operating rooms for the first time as student nurse anesthetists. During the spring semester, first year students spend two days a week in a simulation lab preparing for clinical experiences, which they will begin on a weekly basis in May. Congratulations to our class of 2009 and welcome and good luck to our class of 2011!
