PAC FAQs

-How much should I give?

There is no minimum donation. Any amount you can contribute is appreciated and helps to promote our profession in North Carolina. A recurring monthly donation of $20, $25, $50, $75 or $100 is the best way to ensure the continued strength of NCANA PAC.

-Do my dues support NCANA PAC?

No, individuals cannot be compelled to make political contributions. Therefore, your AANA and NCANA dues do not go to NCANA PAC.

-Are PAC contributions tax deductible?

No. Political contributions must be made from individual, not corporate accounts, and political contributions are not tax deductible.

-How are decisions made regarding to whom PAC contributes?

Candidates and current legislators are identified for NCANA PAC support based solely on their support or potential support for CRNA practice. Political party affiliations and stances on other issues of the day are not considered when supporting a candidate or legislator with NCANA PAC funds. Candidate/legislator interaction with NCANA lobbyists, members of the NCANA Board of Directors and members of NCANA PAC are used to gauge candidate/legislator support for CRNA practice.

-How can I be involved other than a financial contribution?

You can become a key contact for your representative or senator. You can schedule a day to come to Raleigh to follow our lobbyists to meet your representatives and learn more about the legislative process. You can attend receptions for legislators and candidates with NCANA PAC members. You can participate in any of the fundraising events put on by NCANA PAC.

-Is NCANA PAC only about the supervision battle?

No, there are a number of issues other than supervision that have significant implications for our profession. Some of these issues include, but are not limited to, reimbursement, scope of practice, and Affordable Care Act implementation.

-How can a NCANA member recommend a candidate for NCANA PAC support?

If you know of a candidate that supports or may support CRNA practice or if you have a personal connection with a legislator or candidate the best way to let NCANA PAC know is to email us at ncanapac@yahoo.com. Explain your relationship with the candidate or legislator and why you feel NCANA PAC should offer support. We will contact you back and begin a dialogue on how we can support your candidate or legislator.

-Should I contribute individually to my representative or contribute through NCANA PAC?

Ideally you would contribute to your local candidate AND contribute to NCANA PAC. If you have questions with regard to your representative's support for CRNA practice please send an email inquiry to ncanapac@yahoo.com and we will get you the information you need to make an informed decision regarding a contribution.

-Why should I establish a monthly contribution to NCANA PAC?

The strength of a PAC is based in part on the financial strength of that PAC. Regular monthly contributions allow the NCANA PAC members to know that we have funds to support the candidates that support CRNA practice. The less time PAC has to spend soliciting donations means more time engaging legislators and direct promotion of our profession. Finally, regular monthly contributions provide NCANA PAC with a predictable and solid financial position. This allows NCANA PAC to better plan giving to supportive legislators and candidates.

-I am a student, should I be involved with NCANA PAC?

The best time to become involved with NCANA PAC is when you are a student. Through this involvement you can become more knowledgable of the legislative process and more comfortable interacting with legislators. Student involvement with NCANA PAC is a solid foundation to becoming a CRNA that will have a political impact on the future of his or her profession.
Students can also support NCANA PAC financially with any contribution that they feel is within their budget be it a one time contribution or a monthly contribution.
