The President’s Award 

The President’s Award is one of the highest honors presented by the North Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthetists. This award is given at the discretion of the NCANA President to recognize an individual who has made an exceptional impact on the profession of nurse anesthesia and the association in North Carolina. It honors a CRNA whose leadership, dedication, and service embody the values of advocacy, clinical excellence, and professional advancement. Recipients of the President’s Award have demonstrated unwavering commitment to strengthening the nurse anesthesia profession, supporting colleagues and students, and advancing the mission of NCANA through exemplary contributions. This recognition reflects not only professional achievement, but also selfless service and enduring influence on the future of nurse anesthesia in North Carolina.

Award is accompanied with the same benefits as an NCANA Past-President.

Purpose:

To allow the sitting NCANA President to recognize extraordinary contribution or impact that may not fall neatly into existing award categories.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Selected solely at the discretion of the sitting NCANA President.
  2. No formal nomination required.
  3. May be awarded to a CRNA or, if desired, an individual who significantly supported NCANA.

Selection Considerations:

May include:

  1. Exceptional leadership during a pivotal moment.
  2. Crisis response or extraordinary advocacy.
  3. Behind-the-scenes contributions of unusual significance.
  4. Career contributions not previously recognized.
  5. Unique circumstances warranting presidential recognition.

Benefits:

Accompanied by the same benefits afforded to an NCANA Past President (as defined in NCANA policy).

Key Distinctions:

  1. Discretionary and situational.
  2. Not annual by requirement.
  3. Reserved for extraordinary or unique contributions.
  4. Considered one of the Association’s highest honors.

Frequency:

Discretionary; not required to be awarded annually.
